Green Woods Club Membership,
First of all, welcome to the new 2012 Green Woods Season. We are just a month away from the opening and on behalf of the Board, I would like to update everyone on our new year.
Membership as a whole continues to be healthy for the club. We did have a number of past members who have chosen to move on, but their vacancies were quickly filled by our wait list. This year we will again meet our limit of member families (285) and retain a healthy wait list for next year. On this note, I would like to thank Becky Church for her tireless efforts as the Board’s Membership Chair for the last 4 years. Thank you Becky, we will miss your hard work in the years to come. If anyone has interest in the position of membership chair for the next three years, we are very interested in hearing from you. We would like to involve you early in the August membership drive. Please talk to any Board member.
As it has been for the last 16 years, we are pleased to have Scott Elliott as our Swim Team coach for the 2012 season. Welcome back again Scott. We look forward to another great season. The team is currently getting organized. Any queries for the swim team should be directed to Christina Gorman
Woolery Enterprise, Inc. continues on as our management company. They are already hard at work getting the pool ready for the year with new coping around the pool and a fresh coat of paint. With the connection to city water and the new blue bottom of the pool, the pool will look fantastic this year. Woolery is also in the process of hiring the team to manage the club during this season. As usual, if you have family members interested in becoming a lifeguard, you may get in contact with Woolery.
On the Social front, Chris DiPaolo is excited to announce her social calendar for the year. Located on the Green Woods website, we have a number of great events planned. From the yearly ritual of the Crab Feast, to the Wing Fest, and to the ever awe inspiring jam sessions with Dan Graper, you will surely be entertained this year.
The pavilion was a great addition to the club last year. It has provided the membership a great refuge from the heat and inclement weather, along with a great place for facilitating events at the pool. We encourage you to use it again this year for your private events. We have implemented a new rental policy for the pavilion which is available on our website. If anyone is interested in renting the pavilion, don’t hesitate to contact the pool manager.
Our pool and ground focus for this year will be refreshing the bathrooms and dressing up the grounds. Yes, you heard it here first, we will be working on the bathrooms; updated flooring, new countertops, painted walls and bathroom stall extensions are in the works. Add in an auxiliary pump to ensure we have enough pressure to support the pool and toilets, life should definitely be different this year for anyone who chooses to spend the time out of the sun at the facilities. Greg Grimes and Bob Leto lead up the Pool and Grounds committee this year and are hard at work getting the place in shape for the opening. Please keep your eyes open for the annual Clean Up Day announcement (currently planned for May 6th and 12th). We have a number of projects which need to be completed and the memberships’ help is necessary.
I encourage everyone to take the time to check out our updated website. Jay Garvey has done a great job to give it a facelift. As the communications lead for the Board, you will see a number of emails from him this year. Make sure you remove him from your junk list. Jay has a number of new ideas to improve communications which will be rolled out in the months to come. Since we continue to use email as the preferred method of communication, should your email address change at any point, please contact Jay Garvey with your new email address.
On the financial front, the pool continues to do well. Our budget looks solid for the year thanks to Lynn Smiddy. The bathroom freshen ups, pool painting, tree work, etc. will be completed under our existing budget and we should continue to have healthy bank reserve to support any surprises for the next couple of years.
The Board would like to recognize outgoing members Michael Goudy (President) and Carol Koehler (Communications) for their service to the club. Thank you so much for your enthusiastic participation on the Board for the past three years. Your contributions and involvement are greatly appreciated.
Additional Board Members are Ed Bohn and Sarah Goudy. Ed is the Vice President and Sarah is our Secretary. We encourage you to get to know the Board and provide them your support. They give up much of their time to ensure the club runs well for years to come.
It would be remiss of the Board if we didn’t send a shout out to John Merrick for his gift of three Maple trees for the pool area. The club membership will be able to benefit from your generosity for years to come. On behalf of the Board and the membership, a big thank you goes out to you for your long standing membership and interest in the club’s longevity.
One final point for the new year is in regards to pool rules. 2011 raised a number of concerns for the membership and Board on this topic. As a result, we asked Woolery to heighten their enforcement of the club’s rules. We encourage you to review the by-laws on the Green Woods website and review the signage which was put in place last season. A summary of this is at the bottom of this email.
In conclusion, I want to express my enthusiasm for the 2012 summer season, my appreciation to my fellow Board members, and most importantly a big thanks to all of the volunteers that make this club successful year after year. I look forward to great things ahead for the Green Woods Club.
Sincerely,
David Di Biaggio (President, Board of Directors) and the rest of the Green Woods Club Board of Directors.
